Preface

As soon as the iPhone 15 series mobile phones went on sale, Apple officially introduced that the iPhone 15 series mobile phones support the Qi2 wireless charging standard. That is: just use Qi2 related chargers, even without Apple's "MFM" certification, third-party products can bring users a wireless fast charging experience comparable to MagSafe.

Last week, Charging Head Network discovered that the official version of ios17.1 has been released, supporting MPP 15W. For this reason, Charging Head Network immediately contacted Anker, which launched a variety of MPP wireless charging products during the 2023IFA, and arranged an evaluation for everyone using his new products.

Let’s briefly review QI2 first.

Qi2 is a new enhanced wireless charging standard developed by the WPC Wireless Charging Alliance in 2023. It incorporates Apple's MPP (Magnetic Power Profile) technology to provide a better wireless charging user experience and paves the way for the development of new features and enhancements in the future.

The biggest experience difference that QI2 brings to users is that using QI2-certified wireless charging equipment can provide a 15W charging experience for devices that support QI2. WPC believes that QI2 will be a major business opportunity in 23/24.

During IFA 2023, top accessories brands like Anker launched many new QI2 products to seize this wave of dividends.

Qi2 wireless charging actual test

Through the magnetic charging test on the iPhone 15 mobile phone, when Anker's innovative 3-in-1 wireless charger is charging the mobile phone, you can see that the mobile phone's wireless charging UI animation is consistent with the original MagSafe charger.

3-in-1 wireless charging. Through the POWER-Z KM003C tester, it can be read that the current charger output power is 14.97V 1.3A 19.51W.

The magnetic wireless power bank can be read through the POWER-Z KM003C tester that the current output power of the charger is 9.04V 2.15A 19.47W.

In addition, the 3-in-1 wireless charging consumes 0.78W in standby mode.

The magnetic wireless power bank consumes 0.32W in standby mode.

At the same time, it can be seen that the wireless charging power of the two Anker Innovation products and the MagSafe charger for the iPhone 15 mobile phone is almost the same in terms of the output power of the charger, and there is no obvious difference.

Full charging process

Next, we will test the performance of this iPhone 15 with a magnetic wireless power bank. After the phone's power is exhausted, put the phone and the magnetic wireless power bank into a 25°C thermostatic box, turn on the power, and record the data.

(Note: 1. The vertical axis monitors the input curve; 2. Input 20W corresponds to wireless charging 15W)

After the power is turned on, the voltage is 15V, and the power is stable at about 20W for the first 7 minutes; then the power drops to about 16W and continues to charge for 13 minutes; then the power drops to about 14W and continues to charge for 17 minutes; then the power drops again to about 10W And continue charging until 1 hour and 27 minutes; then the power drops to about 8.6W and continues charging until 1 hour and 52 minutes; in the final stage, the charging power enters the trickle charging mode and continues until the end of charging. The entire charging process takes about 2 hours and 3 minutes. .

Let’s take a look at the performance of the 3-in-1 wireless charging.

After the power is turned on, the voltage is 9V, and the power is stable at about 20W for the first 10 minutes; then the power drops from 15W to about 12W and continues to charge for 26 minutes; then the power drops to about 10W and continues to charge for 1 hour and 20 minutes; then the power resumes It dropped to about 8W and continued charging for 1 hour and 44 minutes. Finally, the charging power entered the trickle charging mode and continued until the end of charging. The entire charging process took about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Next, let’s take a look at the performance of iPhone 15 with Apple’s MagSafe wireless magnetic charger.

After turning on the power supply, the voltage was 9V, and the power was stable at about 18.7W for the first 1 hour and 11 minutes; then the power dropped to about 13W and continued charging to 57 minutes; then the power dropped again to about 7.6W and continued charging to 1 hour and 23 minutes; Then the charging power enters the trickle charging mode and continues until the end of charging. The entire charging process takes about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Summary of charging head network

Based on this test, after upgrading the internal beta version system of the iPhone 15 series mobile phones, for Qi2 wireless charging products, the wireless charging power can be equivalent to the original MagSafe charger experience, and the products do not need to undergo "MFM" certification, or have larger market, demand increases.

Charging Head Network also learned that the entire series of Qi2 wireless charging products launched by Anker this time all use easy-to-flush semiconductor solutions. We have previously had many reports on Yichong Semiconductor and its related products. I believe that as Apple opens the MPP function this time, the slightly silent wireless charging market will be detonated again.
